SMTP Log File Abbreviations

Alligate may use abbreviations in the log files to indicate certain test failures and error conditions. In some cases, some of these abbreviations are also added to the message headers.

The following table summarizes the abbreviations/notations Alligate uses in the logs. If the abbreviation is followed by brackets [] or parentheses (), it may contain a number that indicates a penalty score.

ABBREVIATION	MEANING
MXRATE	This refers to the MXRate score.
NOTGOODSNDR	The message was not from an MXRate known "Good Sender"
COUNTRY	Indicates penalty for a suspicious country.
NOTFQDN	Indicates the HELO was not a fully qualified domain name as required by RFC.
NOSUBD	Indicates the HELO had no sub-domain.
LOWCASECMD	Commands were received in lower case.
ADDRSPACE	Improper formatting was used in the RCPT TO or MAIL FROM commands.
NOMX	Sender (MAIL FROM address) has no MX record.
REVDNSTIMEOUT	Timeout condition was encountered checking the senders Reverse DNS.
NOREVDNS	Sender has no Reverse DNS entry.
RDNS~HELO	Indicates the similarity percentage between the HELO and Reverse DNS.
HELO	HELO failed various user defined HELO elements and user defined points were added.
HELOIP	HELO was an IP address.
NULLSNDR	Sender supplied no MAIL FROM address
GREY	Indicates the sender was subjected to greylisting checks.
ROUTE	Penalties were added for routing through multiple countries.
BASE64	Base64 encoding was used in the message body.
SUBJENC-US	Message subject used "US" encoding.
SUBJENC	Indicates the subject encoding matched a user defined regular expression.
CONTENC	Indicates the content encoding matched a user defined regular expression.
IMG	Indicates messages contains an image type matching a user defined regular expression. Not enabled by default.
BODY	Indicates message body contains text matching a user defined regular expression.
RSETS	Penalties were added for extra RSET commands received.
SPAMFLAG	The incoming message headers contained the item "X-Spam-Flag: Yes"
HIASCII	The subject contained High ASCII characters.
BADDATE	The header date was missing or invalid.
CRLF	Unbalanced CR LF pairs were found in the message header.
BLNKLN	A blank line was identified in the message header.
MULTIPART	Header contains multi-part message body directives.
BADRECIPS	Indicates the number of invalid recipients attempted in the connection.
HOPS	Indicates the number of hops used to route the message. No penalty points added. Used as a tag only.
ENVFROM~FROM	Indicates the similarity percentage between the MAIL FROM and the header From.
NOMSGID	Penalties added when the message header have no MESSAGE-ID
BADMSGID	Penalties added when the MESSAGE-ID is in an invalid format.
NOTO	Penalties added when the message header have no To field.
NOSUBJ	Penalties added when the message header have no Subject field.
EMPTYSUBJ	Penalties added when the message header has a Subject field, but there is no subject text.
ADDPTS	Extra penalties added based on the number of tests failed. This is not enabled by default.
DNSBLA	Message failed the DNSBL "A" check.
DNSBLB	Message failed the DNSBL "B" check.
